Quercus rugosa | Coastal Southern California

An even more extreme form of Netleaf Oak (Q. rugosa) can be found at high elevation on the Sky Islands of Arizona. Near the top of Mount Lemmon, outside Tuscon, Arizona, the Netleaf Oak is a shrub rather than a tree, with relatively small, spiny, serrated leaves. Leaf morphology suggests possible introgression from the shrubby, spiny-leaved Q. turbinella.
