Quercus virginiana | Coastal Southern California
Southern coastal California is far ahead of northern California in adopting Southern Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) into their landscapes. it's also more common to plant larger-size nursery trees in southern California than norther California. Those two trends come together in this photograph, which shows a field full of large Southern Live Oak trees being grown for harvest in a nursery in southern California. The trees have been irrigated at their base for many years, keeping the roots close to the trunk for easy transplanting.
