Quercus rugosa | Palo Alto

While Netleaf Oak (Q. rugosa) is an ornamentally pleasing tree year-round, the times when the trees are in new can are typically quite spectacular. Red new growth is common, as seen here, and contrasts powerfully with the dark green leaves. This is a common sight throughout Mexico and Central America where the trees grow, and immigrants from the region confirm the beauty of the mountains when the Netleaf Oaks are showing their new growth.
