Quercus macrocarpa x (Q. macrocarpa x turbinella) | Davis
Here is the tree attached to the tag in the previous photograph. Q turbinella is truly a shrubby oak, and its genetics have an interesting effect on the hybrid Q. macrocarpa growing at Shields Grove. Note the arching and downward-pointing limbs in the photo? You don't see either trait in an upright-growing Q. macrocarpa. Q. turbinella parentage served to shrink the hybrid from Q. macrocarpa size, and turned the offspring into giant tree shrubs.
