Quercus oblongifolia | Mount Lemmon

This is foliage of Mexican Blue Oak from Mount Lemmon outside Tucson, Arizona, in the heart of the tree's range. This particular ecotype shows what is considered typical of the species - a strong blue hue to the leaves, and the nicely rounded, oblong leaves, from which the Latin name Q. oblongifolia, is derived. You can also find leaves which look like this on Engelman Oak, Q. engelmannii, within its range in southern California, but rarely or ever will the Engelman version have such a strong blue hue.
