Mt. Lemmon White Oak | Arizona

Compounding the enigma of the tree described in the previous entry is height of the tree, which is clearly in excess of 70 feet. Gambel Oaks are usually described topping out about 30 feet. So what is this tree? Solving this enigma would require research, both to see if more trees like these two can be found, either on Mount Lemmon itself, or other Arizona Sky Islands. The final research step would be to research the archaeology of oaks in the region, to see if perhaps this tree type was common in previous geological epochs, or if clearly related past evidence can be found.
