Quercus canbyi | Central Valley

Unfortunately, experience with Q. canbyi shows that the growth habit of the species can vary (as is true of many types of oaks) from nicely upright growing as seen in this photo), to a much more pendulous habit. The pendulous types are much more difficult to train in the nursery, and create a much greater need for long term maintenance if planted into an area which requires clearance pruning. Perhaps someone will begin growing a grafted, upright form of Q. canbyi for use along the streets of California.
