Quercus castaneifolia x cerris | Davis

These are a set of 5 Shields Grove Q. castaneifolia. Please note the tiny person walking his dog in the lower right corner. It appears these trees are close to 100 feet in height, if not greater. There’s no way to predict their eventual size - I predict that these will become the tallest oak trees in the state of California within 25 years. The tallest Valley Oaks (Q. lobata) in the state, are also the tallest oaks in North America, but they are incredibly old last survivors among a dying population.
