Quercus hypoleucoides | New Mexico

Deep in the Gila Wilderness, champion oak hunters have discovered an ancient Q. hypoleucoides. Given that the size of this specimen far exceeds the sizes typically seen within Silverleaf Oak habitat, it is safe to assume that this tree is several centuries old, or perhaps more. The tree is growing far up difficult to access trails, and is fully surrounded by other trees, making photographing the whole of this tree impossible.
